Ybor City Blues“Get up, quietly,” he said. “Behave, and nobody has to get hurt. You understand?”
Cornelia Pettijohn thought she was getting out of Florida. She boarded the train, but so had three gangsters. Cornelia is kidnapped at gunpoint and pressured into solving the murder of a beautiful young blues singer. Soon, the three snowbirds are up to their ears in trouble. Just when Cornelia thinks it can't get any worse, the trio gets a surprise visit from Teddy's estranged mother. She's heard about Teddy's engagement and is here to see her finally wed. Tampa Bay's Cuban quarter has never been more dangerous. Cornelia quickly finds herself in deep trouble after a tumble down the stairs leaves her trapped with a dead man. She isn't sure she can untangle this mess before she loses her life. Murder at the Million Dollar Pier"Never waste good rum on a bad night." - Teddy Lawless, February 1926.
There are many bad nights ahead for Teddy. Shortly after she arrives at the newly opened Vinoy Hotel in Saint Petersburg, she comes face to face with her ex-fiancé, Ansel Stevens, in the dining room. Cue the slap that was thirty years in the making. Unfortunately, her ex-fiancé dies during a yacht race shortly thereafter. Conclusion of the authorities: poison. His family closes ranks, leaving Teddy as the prime suspect. Worse, Teddy's hair comb is found on the deck of Ansel's boat, leading to her swift arrest. Can Cornelia Pettijohn and Uncle Percival save fun-loving Teddy before she goes from the grand hotel to the big house? |

Murder on the Mullet ExpressIt’s 1926, and the Florida Land Boom is in full swing. Army nurse Cornelia Pettijohn takes leave to travel to Florida with her ancient uncle, who claims that he wants a warm winter home. When their car breaks down, they take the local train, The Mullet Express, into Homosassa. By the time they arrive, though, a passenger is dying of poison. Uncle Percival’s hidden agenda makes him the sheriff’s prime suspect. Furthermore, the little old man has run afoul of the local mob. Cornelia and Teddy Lawless, a twenty-year-old flapper in a body pushing sixty, must chase mobsters and corner suspects to dig her uncle out of the hole he’s dug for himself.

Praise for Murder on the Mullet Express:
"Murder on the Mullet Express is an action-packed crime caper set during the Florida Land Boom, as bootleggers, mobsters and grifters galore feed on the dreams of sun-seekers."
Catriona McPherson, Agatha-winning author of the Dandy Gilver series and The Child Garden
"If you enjoy historical, humorous looks at the past, together with a splendid set of characters who save the day...you really do need to check this one! It's so much fun, I've got to highly recommend it!"
Glenda Bixler, Amazon Vine Voice, Book Reader's Heaven
"Gun-toting Cornelia and tippler Teddy are such fun characters. The cantankerous uncle with his love of steam engines and movie cameras is a hoot as well...The backdrop of 1920s Florida gives great color to the story, painting a picture of fast development, desperate land speculators, and all the crime and greed that comes with them."
